Volunteers play an extremely important role in any hospice program. Volunteers go beyond their personal duties to help others in need. They provide countless hours of support for the work of our hospice program and for our patients. Volunteers provide assistance at all levels of skill. Many are relatives or friends of former hospice patients who, having seen how much hospice can help, want to contribute to its good work.
Hospice volunteers provide emotional support and practical help to patients and their family members and friends. A volunteer is assigned to one patient at a time. Volunteers serve in many ways. Activities may include: provide companionship, engage in conversation, listening, preparing and serving a meal and or assist in feeding, shopping reading books or newspapers, engage in games, write letters, etc. They may also serve in the business office with some administrative tasks and duties.
To qualify to assist in non-medical patient care, volunteers are required to take 16 hours of training program and must undergo a background check. There are many ways of volunteering. Your interests, skills and availability may just match any of our many needs.
